Lamahatta -- a weekend destination

On the way to Kalimpong from Darjeeling, a small patch of stretched green land did not catch my notice when we crossed this place in early 2012. But in 2017 on a bright morning of April Lamahatta surprised me with its well-decorated and well-organised beauty. A piece of velvet green valley surrounded by tall pine trees, flower garden with fluttering Buddhist prayer flags is the main attraction of Lamahatta. A view from the watch-tower pleases my eyes with a vibrancy of colour.

A walk around the garden will rejuvenate a soul “long in the city pent.” Cool wind through the pine forest made me thirsty for a cup of coffee. Just outside the park, there are small stalls with tea and water. There are homestays, trekking options and chance to visit tea estates.

A panoramic view of Kanchenjungha is also an attraction of this place. But being a very small village Lamahatta may not be that interesting for more than a couple of days stay.

January to May is the perfect time to come here to enjoy the beauty of its colourful garden.

For an extended tour Mongpoo can be included as an off beat destination.  Just click the link below to get information about Mongpoo or have a look at the blog section.
